Clipperton is a deserted island off the Mexican coast. Its so far removed from the rest of the world its ecosystem is completely unique.
A group of 16 scientists and artists from 6 different countries will be travelling there in October, the scientists will study the island and its environment and the artists will document the trip. All the work will be exhibited around the world and a book will be made to commemorate the trip and publish its outcomes.
The island has no fresh drinking water, no food, sparse vegetation and plenty of poisonous crabs.
This project is a clear combination of art and science, one of its aims is to enhance the relationship between art and science, nature and technology. These relationships are usually tempetuous however many artists, and scientists, are now exploring and connecting the two (notably Stellarc, Catherine Wagner and Laura Cinti). This project and its outcomes will further blur the lines between art and science. There will be artistc documentation by dancers, photographers, filmmakers, sculptors and musicians.
